Explanation of Service Activities
Bill Sparr is gathering a Team to plan the following eight service activities. Sign up to participate, assist, or to plan any or all of these events:
October 10 Golden Age
Barb Zastrow is the lead person on arranging a variety of helpful activities for 6th & 7th graders to do with or for the residents of Golden Age Home. Depending on the weather this may involve raking outside, painting inside, or playing games with some of the residents.
November 28 Care Packages
Deb Overhaug and Joe Story have assisted us in the past in both purchasing items and in learning what to purchase for care packages for those in the military. Brenda Marcks is the contact person this year and we will explore adding college students and sending letters to 6th & 7th graders in the Lekubu Parish.
Notes & Letters to Lekubu Parish
We need assistance in getting this to work well. Pastor Jack at Lekubu Parish is willing to find a person on their end if we have someone at Grace with which they can work out the details. Perhaps Christmas and Easter are good times to do this.
December 12 Salvation Army
The Tomahawk Service Unit provides assistance in time of need. The backpack program that provides food for families is one of the better known programs. If possible we will fill the backpacks for that week and will also learn about Salvation Army programs and do bell ringing to raise money for those programs.
December 19 Northwoods Vineyard youth
Last year we met with St. Mary's youth so this year we will meet with Northwoods Vineyard youth to learn about their congregation, what they do, and their practices and plans for Christmas.
January 16 Police & Fire Stations
Barb Zastrow has arranged our visits. These are walking distance from Grace. 6th & 7th grades are a good age at which to learn about volunteer service (Fire Department) and to understand, appreciate and relate with the work and personnel of our Tomahawk City Police Depatrment.
February 13 Food Pantry
Brenda Marcks is arranging for us to help at the Food Pantry and perhaps at the Thrift Cellar. Tomahawk has well organized volunteer organizations that each provide some basic need and which together cover nearly every need.
March 13 Krueger Family Funeral Home
We do this visit every other year. This is a very helpful introduction to a funeral home and to learn why funerals are important and what words and actions are appropriate and especially helpful to do for others when their loved one dies.
May 1 Golden Age and/or Riverview
We will end with as we began doing a variety of things with or for the residents of Golden Age and/or Riverview Home.
